Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd is planning to set up 500 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the state. The company plans to set up 50 EV charging stations in the phase I and next three to four years across the state it will have 500 stations. The numbers will grow considering the growth rate projected for EV’s, as well as the E-rickshaws already plying in the state.
The company has already invited bids to select the implementing agency. The cost of each charging station will be in the range of ₹ 3-4 lakh. The land for setting up the stations will be facilitated by MSEDCL and the company will bring the distribution line, according to him.
A vehicle would be charged completely in about 45 minutes to one hour at these points. The company also plans to set up these charging points at its free/empty substation spaces. It may be noted that, Tata Power has initiated nine locations for EV charging stations, at Vikhroli, Matunga, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Bhandup, Chembur, Malad, Lower Parel, Parel, Borivli and Carnac Bundar.
