Government of India is planning to set up a Central Power Research Institute in Shilapur in Nashik district in Maharashtra. The state government has allotted the land and the institute will come up with an investment of ₹ 1,153 million. The unit will have On Line Short Circuit test facilities for transformers, miniature circuit breakers, contractors, switch fuse unit, panels, bus ducts and current transformers.
It will also have state-of-the-art facilities for testing Energy Meter (both Smart Meter & Conventional Meter) and Transformer Oil. As of January 2019, foundation stone is laid for the project.
